Protecting

From the Family learning hub

Physical safety is the obvious part. The larger part is emotional: protecting your children from your own temper, from adults who disrespect them, and from being made to carry adult problems.

Part 01

The lesson

Protecting also means teaching them to be safe without teaching them to be afraid — internet use, friendships, saying no to adults when something feels wrong.

Reflection

Questions to sit with

  1. 01What will your children say about you when they are forty?
  2. 02When did your child last see you admit you were wrong?
  3. 03Is your family managing your moods?

Put it into practice

Action points

  1. 01Spend 30 uninterrupted minutes with your child today — no phone, their choice of activity.
  2. 02Ask your child what they think makes a good father. Listen without correcting the answer.
